Breed Highlights: German Shepherds were developed in the mid-19^th century by Max von Stephanitz and Artur Meyer. They wanted a sheepdog of German heritage with a superior working ability. Initially bread as herders, German Shepherds can run along an invisible line, acting as a moving fence, to keep sheep in a defined area and safe from danger.
